Vintage Ad: 1967 Ford Thunderbird
Ahh the good ol' days of 1960's automoting. Hideaway headlights, raw horsepower, little to no safety, and hand-drawn car ads. Ads which may seem slightly ridiculous today. Modern car ads probably wouldn't touch the words "dashing", "common sense" or "Landau" with a ten-foot pole. But that sort of Mad Men style copy is part of what makes these old ads awesome. No multiple angle photo spread, no mpg rating, and no super huge logo. Just two hand drawn pictures, a tiny Ford logo, and a description. These ads were all about emotion and feeling. The top picture says: "Look how cool you'll be when you pull up to your crazy rich person party in Monaco". and the bottom copy and picture says "Also it's comfortable and has cool options, it's common sense for you to buy this car."
This particular ad is for the 1967 Thunderbird. That year Ford introduced the 4-door option to the Thunderbird, and continued to evolutionize what the Thunderbird line was, having moved from a two-seater sports car in 1955, to a 4-door luxury sports sedan by 1967.
This also must be one of the last cars available with suicide doors in the back (doors which open backwards). I don't know of any cars sold later than the Thunderbird and Lincoln Continental that had them. Do you?
